Satara’s Monsoon Magic: An All-Women Journey from Fog to Flowers – Sonali Pradhan
The best trips are often the ones that evolve on their own. Our journey to Satara, initially planned as a simple group tour, turned into an empowering all-women adventure – a sisterhood forged across the misty ghats of Maharashtra.
Our trip began with the nostalgic rumble of an overnight train, chugging from Hyderabad to Pune in the comfort of 3AC. From Pune, a comfortable coach whisked us away through the monsoon-drenched landscape, setting the stage for the raw beauty of Satara. Our destination, the legendary Kaas Plateau, was waiting, but first, we had adventures to conquer.
Day 1: Mists, History, and Wind-Swept Views
Upon reaching our charming agro-resort, we wasted no time. After a refreshing lunch, our first stop was the historical Sajjangadh Fort. The rain was a constant companion, lending a dramatic, moody atmosphere to the spiritual sanctuary.
The real show, however, began at the windmill area. Imagine: powerful turbines silently slicing through the air, visibility dropping to mere feet, and the fog so thick it felt like walking inside a cloud. It was spectacular, wild, and utterly unforgettable. The evening concluded with a delicious local dinner at our resort, ensuring an early, restful night before the main event.

Day 2: Waterfalls, Vistas, and the Valley of Flowers
The next morning was dedicated to pure natural majesty. We started with the roaring cascade of Thoseghar Waterfalls, a powerful display of monsoon bounty. Next was the endless expanse of the Chalkewadi Windmill Farms, where the views stretched out forever under a dramatic sky.

Then came the moment we were waiting for: Kaas Plateau. Though the weather kept the vibrant blooms a little shy, the sheer scale of the landscape was breathtaking. The high-altitude plateau, a declared UNESCO World Heritage Site, was still dotted with endemic flowers—a serene, delicate contrast to the powerful winds. We followed this with a visit to the majestic Vajrai Waterfalls, before heading back for a memorable, authentic Maharashtrian dinner at the famous Pawar Vada en route.

Day 3: Forts, Flavors, and Festive Farewells
Our final morning was dedicated to soaking up the local history and culture before heading back to Pune. After a quick breakfast, we tackled the heights of the Ajinkyatara Fort, enjoying a final panoramic view of Satara city. We left the city after offering a final prayer at the sacred Dholya Ganapati Temple.

No trip is complete without a souvenir of local flavor! We made a mandatory stop to buy Satara’s famous Kandi Peda—a sweet, melt-in-your-mouth treat.
The journey back to Pune Railway Station was a vibrant contrast to the peace of the countryside. Being the last two days of the Ganapati festival, the city was alive with color, music, and devotion. We saw countless pandals and the joyful procession of Visarjan (immersion), a spectacular cultural immersion that capped off our trip.
Satara gave us history, wild nature, cultural treasures, and, most importantly, the effortless camaraderie of an unexpected all-women group. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best part of the itinerary is the sisterhood you find along the way.
